Dental Implants
One of the most exciting advancements in modern dentistry, dental implants can transform both the health and the appearance of your smile by replacing missing teeth. Dental implants are designed to mimic the form and function of a person's natural teeth. Consisting of a strong titanium artificial tooth root crowned with a natural-looking replacement tooth, a dental implant combines strength and durability with aesthetic appeal.
Many patients of our San Diego dentistry practice prefer dental implants to other tooth replacement solutions, such as dentures and dental bridges, finding them more comfortable and convenient. Imagine not having to worry about your dentures becoming dislodged and falling out while eating, drinking, talking, or laughing. Because dental implants are secured to the jawbone, implant dentistry patients can engage in daily activities worry free.
In addition to the obvious benefits of looking and feeling like natural teeth, dental implants can improve the health of your smile. Because the normal action of chewing stimulates the underlying jawbone and helps to preserve bone density, the loss of one or more teeth is often associated with bone deterioration. Dental implants restore the beneficial relationship between tooth and jawbone.
Laser Dentistry
One of the newest developments in the dental field, laser dentistry has a wide range of applications. By augmenting or replacing traditional general and cosmetic dentistry techniques, the use of lasers can make treatment safer and more effective.
At Complete Dental Health, we use one of the most advanced laser dentistry systems available. With the BIOLASE Waterlase® MD, procedures that once required the use of drills can be accomplished faster and with acute precision. Since treatment using the BIOLASE Waterlase® MD is virtually pain free, patients don’t have to suffer the bothersome after effects of a local anesthetic.
Laser dentistry can make many general and cosmetic dentistry treatments faster, more comfortable, and more effective, including tooth whitening, gum recontouring, and periodontal treatment.
Sleep Apnea
Affecting over 12 million Americans, sleep apnea often goes undiagnosed and untreated. The normal breathing cycle of a person with sleep apnea is interrupted repeatedly while he or she sleeps. According to the American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA), sleep apnea can have serious health consequences, including headaches, memory problems, difficulty concentrating, impotence, weight gain, and life-threatening cardiovascular problems.
There are three types of sleep apnea: obstructive, central, and mixed. As its name implies, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is caused by an obstruction in the upper airway. Commonly, this blockage occurs when the muscles at the rear of the throat relax and the soft tissue collapses. In central sleep apnea, the brain fails to send the proper signals to the lungs and diaphragm. Mixed sleep apnea is a combination of obstructive and central sleep apnea.
Our dentists provide patients of our San Diego dentistry practice with proven sleep apnea treatments. After determining your unique situation, Dr. Collins will recommend the treatment that best fits your needs. Possible treatments include oral appliances, airway pressure devices, and combination therapies.
